#10: 4 Keys to Create Lasting Change
For today's episode, I wanted to take you behind the scenes with me and my work as a transformation coach so you can learn how to create lasting change in your life. My focus is on creating lasting change and supporting people through enduring transformation in their lives. As a listener, I want to bring this to you as well. It’s a chance for you to get curious and do some self-reflection on what transformation means for you, what it looks like, the direction you're headed in, and how you might want to create lasting change in your life.
I believe that people often expect change to happen quickly, like the overnight successes we see on social media. But lasting change requires a different approach. It's not just about finding momentary relief or comfort; it’s about making profound shifts so that in five years, you're not the same person. It's an ongoing journey to integrate change into your life completely. Much like someone who wins the lottery but quickly loses the money because they're not prepared to handle it, creating lasting change means not just understanding the change but truly embodying it.
The work I do with people involves bringing this awareness into their consciousness and integrating it into their lives. This prepares them to make significant changes when the right opportunities arise. And with that in mind, I wanted to share four key elements I consider crucial when aiming for lasting change. I'll go through each and provide some insights. My hope is that you use this information to get curious, see what resonates with you, and explore where you are right now on your journey.
So, join me as we explore how to create lasting change and transform your life in meaningful ways. Just remember to take what feels right to you and leave the rest. Let's get curious and start this transformative journey together.
Self Awareness and Self Responsibility - The First Key to Create Lasting Change
The first key to create lasting change in your life is recognizing and accepting self-awareness and self-responsibility. Let’s dive deeper into what these mean.
Self-awareness involves bringing your attention to yourself and really understanding where you are in your current process. While your past and history are part of your story, it's important to focus on where you find yourself right now. Self-responsibility, on the other hand, is about taking ownership for your current position. The past is behind you, and although there's plenty to discuss about healing and moving on, what's vital here is gauging your level of self-awareness. Are you recognizing and reflecting on your own behaviors and patterns?
If you’re here listening to this, it’s likely you’re already engaging in some form of self-reflection, as this podcast focuses on transforming your life. But how aligned are you with this awareness? And equally, are you ready to own up to your current circumstances? Have you considered how your actions have contributed to where you are now, and are you ready to make changes from this awareness?
In my work with clients, this forms a crucial starting point. It's essential to recognize that your journey of change and transformation in life, business, or any area, is uniquely your own. No one else can travel this path for you. As a coach and a guide, my role is not to do the work for you; instead, I am here to support you by providing a space, sharing tools, and fostering a conducive environment for change. It all starts with you having a solid grasp on self-awareness and self-responsibility.
Take time to check in with yourself: where are you currently in your journey? If you're looking to create lasting change, are you aware of how you've reached this point? More importantly, are you prepared to reflect and approach things differently?
This foundational requirement is significant because creating lasting change requires ongoing self-assessment and reflection. As you move forward, continually ask yourself, "Where am I in my process, and what do I need to address next?" Remember, change is a journey, and staying mindful of these elements will guide you along the way.
An Open Mind and Curiosity - The Second Key to Create Lasting Change
The second key to create lasting change in your life is having an open mind and a curious spirit. The second foundational piece to create lasting change is all about embracing openness and curiosity in the world around you. It's crucial to recognize and understand that no one knows everything. This awareness can transform change and transformation into a realm of endless possibilities and magic.
By staying open and curious, you invite more magic into your life. When you think you have all the answers but haven't achieved what you desire, it's a signal to remain honest with yourself, maintaining awareness and curiosity. Self-awareness plays a vital role here, allowing you to approach life with wonder and excitement.
From my experience with clients, the more open they are, the more they embrace curiosity and willingness to explore new tools and methodologies. This openness paves the way for magical transformations, attracting more opportunities and new possibilities into their lives.
In essence, maintaining an open and curious mindset forms a solid foundation for lasting change. It has consistently served me well and can do the same for you. Remember, the more open you are to different possibilities, the more likely you'll achieve the transformation you're seeking.
Unlock Your Mind Body Connection - The Third Key to Create Lasting Change
The third key to create lasting change in your life is unlocking your mind-body connection.
Creating lasting change is a journey that involves understanding and working with your inner self. One of the foundational steps in this journey is unlocking your mind-body connection. For those who know me, you'll understand how passionate I am about this subject. In fact, I'm currently in the editing phase of my book on the mind-body connection, slated to launch in 2025.
What does unlocking the mind-body connection mean? It's about stepping out of your headspace and reconnecting with your body, allowing your mind and body to work in harmony. Our bodies are constantly communicating with us, though we might not always pay attention. Have you ever had a gut feeling that something wasn't right, prompting you to leave a situation? Or perhaps felt a strong urge to follow a random intuition? These are examples of your mind-body connection at work. By tuning into these signals, you allow a powerful dialogue between your mind and body.
To truly transform and express yourself at your fullest potential, nurturing this connection is essential. In my work with clients, I frequently emphasize the importance of paying attention to your body's cues. Even in the decision-making workshops I conduct, we focus on listening to your body.
We live in a world that often glorifies the thinking brain, but true transformation and lasting change come from balancing that with your body’s wisdom. Yes, thinking is important, of course. I love my brain just as much as the next person, but acknowledging and leveraging the mind-body connection allows for a deeper, more profound change.
Embracing this holistic approach is critical if you're pursuing changes that will stand the test of time. Letting your mind drive the show doesn't tap into the full spectrum of your capabilities. Instead, by reconnecting with your body, you open the door to deeper transformation. This concept represents a significant piece of creating lasting change, whether it's personal growth or another area of your life.
Do Things Your Way - The Fourth Key to Create Lasting Change
The fourth key to create lasting change is to be willing to do things your way. To truly make changes that stick, you need to be open to trying approaches that work specifically for you. Often, people believe that there's one framework or process that will work for everyone, but I don't believe that's the case. Everyone's journey is unique, and while there can be overarching themes or methods, it really comes down to individual experiences.
In my work with clients, I guide them through certain processes, tailoring tools and resources to fit their personal needs. This is all about testing different strategies, trying them out, and finding what resonates with you. This ties back to being open and curious, as it's crucial to understand and embrace doing things in your own way.
We're increasingly moving toward a world that celebrates individuality. Think about how workplace structures have evolved; it's no longer just about the 9-to-5 jobs with pensions. There are now more paths, more ways to create a fulfilling career. This need for personal authenticity also applies to raising children. Where past generations might have relied on "because I said so," today's parenting often involves giving children more say while still providing guidance.
The essence here isn't selfishness, but about aligning with your true self. When you're in alignment, feeling good about yourself, it benefits everyone around you. It’s essential to recognize and embrace why moving towards individuality is important. So go ahead and do things your way, even if others choose differently—there's no right or wrong.
Stay true to yourself during this process. Find tools and tips that align with you. Personally, I find peace in walking in nature, but others might prefer journaling or meditating. Having a variety of tools in your toolbox allows you to adapt based on how you're feeling. What works for you may change as you evolve, and that's perfectly fine. Embrace this change and let it guide you on your path to lasting transformation.
Conclusion on the Four Keys to Create Lasting Change
In our journey to create lasting change, whether it’s in your personal life, business, or career these are the four key areas to be mindful of and incorporate into your life.
Have Self-Awareness and Self-Responsibility: This is about understanding where you currently are in your process and taking responsibility for it. Reflect on your past and acknowledge your role in your present circumstances. Building a strong foundation in self-awareness helps guide lasting change.
Be Open and Curious: Approach life with a sense of curiosity. Recognize that you don't know everything, and that's perfectly okay. Openness to new possibilities can unlock pathways to transformation.
Unlock Your Mind-Body Connection: It's crucial to step out of your mind and reconnect with your body. Your body communicates with you in various ways, and nurturing this connection is a powerful tool for real change.
Be Willing to Do Things Your Way: Embrace your individuality. What works for one person may not work for another. It's important to find what resonates with you and be open to adjusting as you continue evolving.
For your homework, reflect on these four pillars.
Check in with yourself:
Which area do you feel confident in?
Which might need more attention?
